'All I wanted was to adopt the oldest dog left': Dog lover searches for the loneliest senior dog at Humane Society, she comes home with a 10-year-old puggle named 'Bixby' who is pure pupper perfection

Angels don't always have wings, but they do always adopt the loneliest puggle in the shelter.

Adopting a dog is such a meaningful experience. You're adding another member to your family to create memories with, cuddle, play, and change their lives for furrever. Most people adopt puppies because you get the most time with them. You get to experience those adorable puppy months, work with them through their teen phase, and come out the other side with an adult doggo that will hopefully stick around for another 10-15 years. However, there are many dogs other than puppies that need loving homes. Ironically, the dogs that need the most love are the ones that are adopted the least - senior dogs.

Our dog lover below said that all she wanted for Christmas was "to adopt the oldest dog left at the Humane Society", and she did just that. She met 'Bixby', a 10-year-old puggle, and fell head-over-paws in love with him. Who wouldn't? This charming senior gentleman has an awwdorable face and loves toys, cuddling, and playing! Age is just a number for Bixby, and we suspect he's got many more years of loving his new family in him. 

Senior dogs are some of the best dogs you can adopt - all they want is love, a safe place to sleep, and some toys of their own. Next time you're looking to add a four-legged family member to your house, consider adopting a senior dog to give them the best rest of their lives they could ever ask for.

    My husband named him Bixby. Vet estimate is 10 years old. He is so goofy and loves toys and cuddling! He gets along great with our cat and other dogs.

  • One of the things that makes being a writer at Animal Comedy so pawesome is seeing all of the doggos on the internet find happiness. If we could, we would adopt every dog out there, buy a giant ranch for all of us to live on, and we would be perfectly content. Unfortunately, we have yet to find a genie that will grant us those wishes, but we're working on it. Seeing Bixby find his furrever family is nothing short of a miracle and it makes our days better just by knowing that he found love.

  • Puggles are a unique breed in that they have the pug's love of people and the beagle’s curiosity. We all know that pugs aren't the sharpest nail in the toolbox, but when combined with some beagle, they're a whole level smarter. They like smelling (from their beagle side) and can be very stubborn (from their pug side). Overall, we think they're pretty cute and would consider getting one.
